22 Sep 09 Blog fork()s some children

At first, the general purpose of this blog was Linux HOWTOs, there have been a few good ones, specifically Netcat, tc & iproute2 which is a personal favorite, and a couple of cool bits and pieces such as how to put a serial console on your Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS router. I think the Multithreaded TCP tunnel is a fantasticly useful piece of software – if I may say so myself, with some very impressive results!

Since starting this blog, I’ve also built a robot and published some other interesting developments. I’m even now offering free web application audits for genuinely interested persons, for which I’ve received a lot of interest, surprisingly enough(!)

Now hitting about 1000 unique visitors per day, I’m looking to fork the blog into some new areas, chiefly due to having run out of interesting, relevant or useful HOWTOs to write, or the number of personal projects I can take up and blog about in any given time. As a part Consultant, part developer and part hobbyist, I come up against an interesting range of issues each day, and I’m going to widen the scope of this blog to anything technical, anything Linux, and anything electronic/embedded that I come up against and that I think others might find interesting or relevant.

On that note, after building the robot, I have a reasonable stock of spare hardware, specifically, one Phidgets interface kit, and one Alix board. I’m hopefully going to be moving in to a new apartment in the next month or two, and as soon as I do, my first planned project, involving the purchase of some electronic locks, RFID readers, laser sensors and biometric scanners will be an entry/alarm system – so I’m quite looking forward to working on that. Any suggestions or feedback are as always welcome :-)

At this point, any guest bloggers that can extend the scope of the blog would also be welcomed.

Adam
